Garnet's life began quite differently from what it would later become. Originally named Sarah, she was born to the quiet archeological settlement of Bone Village. Its people studied fossils and hoped to one day unravel the mysteries of the Ancients. Her parents fought and her father was somewhat emotionally distant, though Sarah's birth helped to alleviate their troubles for a time. Ultimately it was a case of too little too late, prompting Jane to pack up her daughter and depart for the mainland. She was certain time apart would do them some good. Jane and 'Sarah' would never be heard from again.
Near Timber, a little girl was found washed ashore with no memory of how she came to be there. The couple that found her were stricken by the resemblance to their late daughter and decided to take in the child. From that day forward she would live a tender lie under a new name: Garnet til Alexandros XVII. The family was rich and affluent, granting her with the finest private tutors gil could buy. Mother and Father had ties to nearly all the local businesses - the railroads, shares in broadcast and publishing - but were rarely involved in affairs that drew they eyes of Shinra. As such, she grew up sheltered and blissfully ignorant to the hardships so many others would suffer.
Things began to change following the death of her adopted father. More accurately, her mother began to change. She became hostile in her business dealings, favoring efficiency over humanity. Brahne used her wealth to buy and sell Timber's properties, laying off en mass and disturbing countless lives. Though it was clear that she'd developed a taste for power, she was always careful to remain inconspicuous; fearing that Shinra might come to put her in place as it had done to so many others. Behind the scenes, however, she slowly but surely built connections in both Deling and Dollet. There were hushed talks of a Coup d'etat, which she desperately sought to be a part of.
Most plans hinged on the use of huge materia; highly concentrated sources of magic said to be 330 times more powerful than its regular counterparts. One of which the Alexandros family was already in possession of, worn as a pendant and handed down from one generation to the next as an heirloom piece. It had become Garnet's on her 16th birthday. There were others, and after assembling them from across the globe the anti-Shinra trifecta would bring the world to its knees. Such talk startled Garnet, and though she didn't have much mind for politics she was certain that standing against a mega-corporation could only end in death and despair.
Running away - keeping away her piece to their puzzle - seemed like the only viable option. Her success came at the hands of generous strangers she met along the way. Conversationalists who hid her away in Fort Condor for a time; A kindly gentleman who gave her a ride to his chocobo farm; The somewhat senile old couple in Kalm who offered room and board, all the while insisting she was their granddaughter. Finally she made it to Midgar and was able to seek council with Shinra's executive board after putting up a relentless fuss. Whispers of rebellion were nothing new to them, and neither were they inclined to feel threatened by a generic business mogul. None of Brahne's endeavors were in direct competition to any of their own services. What they did have an interest in was her knowledge (gleaned from eavesdropping Brahne's private discussions) concerning huge materia and to what ends it could be used.
Neglecting to tell them that one such rumored chunk hung round her neck, Garnet was able to negotiate protection from those Brahne sent to retrieve her. During her travels there was word that she be returned to Timber at any cost -- even her life. In the weeks since her 'escape' from home, Garnet lives in a perpetual state of restlessness. She can't run, but does not wish to stay in Midgar. She struggles with the wild changes to her life and tries to adjust to the uncaring and overwhelming city surroundings. She copes with the rumors of mother's ever-crumbling sanity best she can and counts the minutes until Shinra inevitably becomes just another hound snapping at her heels.20 years old. Born on January 15th. Has always felt an affinity for white magic. Over the years she has accumulated and mastered materia such as Restore, Heal, Revive and Barrier. Often dreams of storms and tossing ships. Sometimes hums a song with no known origin. Along her travels, she adopted the alias of Dagger. For no other reason that because it was the first offensive weapon she ever laid eyes on. While in Midgar, she desperately tries to blend in and not hint at her privileged upbringing. In both speech and posture, this is still very much a work in progress. Enjoys sneaking off to take in the occasional show. LOVELESS is alright, but her favorite performance is I Want to be Your Canary
